Wang River Poems

Dan Veach

     Song of Wei City

Wei City, morning rain dampens light dust

A traveler’s inn, the green willow green again

Why not empty one more cup of wine—

West of the Yang Pass, there are no old friends

This poem became a traditional song of parting in China,

reminiscent of Robert Burns’s “Auld Lang Syne.”
